Choosing The Right Personal Microdermabrasion
System
First lets examine the skin
itself. The two main layers of the skin are the epidermis
and the dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to
the outside world. It's a set of dead skin cells on top of another
layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost
layer is called the stratum corneum. The stratum
corneum mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and
the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules
from getting through.
This barrier also acts upon
expensive lotions that you buy to help your skin, but only a small
fraction of the lotion can get through this protective layer of
dead skin cells and oils which comprise the stratum corneum. This
layer is home to many minor skin imperfections like fine wrinkle
lines and blemishes. All of the action in microdermabrasion takes
place at the level of the stratum corneum.
The principal of microdermabrasion
is to break up and remove the stratum corneum.
With the stratum corneum gone,
the skin's surface is removed. A healing process begins, and brings
with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. Some of
the skin's visible imperfections, like sun damage, blemishes and
fine lines, may be removed. Most importantly, without
the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and
lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients
and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin.
By mechanically exfoliating
the surface of your skin over a course of weekly sessions, you
can remove years of dull build-up in as little as four to six
weeks. Over time, this repetitive process stimulates the production
of a new layer of skin cells, bringing with it an increased level
of collagen and elastin.
By choosing wisely, you can
have wonderful benefits including encouragement of new skin development,
reduced wrinkles and contour defects, promotion of newer, younger
looking skin, tighter skin and a more toned face, and reduced
pore size.
So now imagine how to accomplish
microdermabrasion.
Professionals have
used a dry procedure incorporating abrasion and suction for years.
This proven method is now available to you at home with the Age
Sciences personal microderm system.
Other systems, which use
a polisher and a lotion type of system, do not break up and remove
the stratum corneum like the Age Sciences system does because
they do not have suction, and a controlled, dry abrasion. Only
abrasion and suction combined can provide you with the quality
of microdermabrasion you need.
Removal of the Stratum
Corneum IS NOT a daily skin care regimen, and must not be done
more than once a week. Products which are used daily do not remove
the Stratum Corneum.
